The Cowboys Have Done It Again!
The Cowboys make yet another early playoff exit. Disappointed. But, Not Surprised.
I have to admit, I thought this year would be different. But, once again, I was painfully wrong.
The Dallas Cowboys just suffered a blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers, eliminating them in the very first round of the playoffs.
Dallas was the number 2 seed in the NFC, and the Packers were the 7th seed.
It has now been 29 years since the Dallas Cowboys have made it to an NFC Conference Championship. It’s also current quarterback Dak Prescott’s 5th loss out of his 7 playoff games played. Which makes his 2-5 record tied for worst by any QB in playoff history (min. 5 games).
Prescott gave a three word evaluation of his performance on Sunday saying, “I sucked tonight.”
Things were really looking up for the QB this year. He had what may have been his best season in his entire NFL career, with over 4500 passing yards, 36 TDs, with just 9 interceptions. He’s even been a top 3 MVP candidate all season long.
In his defense, he threw for an incredible 403 yards and 3 touchdowns Sunday night. He did have 2 interceptions with one of them being a pick-six. However, the real issue for the Cowboys last night was surprisingly the defense. A top 5 defense that only allowed 18 points per game in the NFL regular season, went on to give up 42 points in the game that mattered most.
81 year-old Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was tight-lipped about if there was any future remaining in Dallas for head coach Mike McCarthy. “I haven’t thought one second about it,” Jones said. But, I’d honestly be surprised if the Cowboys didn’t move on from McCarthy as he and the Cowboys have only disappointed in the playoffs so far.
Nevertheless, if you were optimistic like me, you’re probably in disbelief that something like this could happen so, so many times.
And, if you trusted that history would repeat itself, you were most likely unfazed by such results.
Now let’s end this debriefing session with a line that would make the most notorious Cowboy-hater of all time proud. This is for you Stephen A. Smith.
“How ‘Bout Them Cowboys!”
